Disney Cruise Line Fall 2027 & Spring 2028: Which Sailing Is Right for Your Family?
Disney Cruise Line is coming back to New York, and that’s only the beginning.
If you’ve ever looked at a Disney Cruise and thought, “That sounds amazing, but I really don’t want to fly to _______,” you’re going to want to pay attention. Disney Cruise Line has released its Fall 2027 and Spring 2028 itineraries, and there are some very exciting options for families in New England and those within driving distance of NYC.
The biggest news for this region? Disney Cruise Lines is returning to New York City in fall 2027 with the Disney Wish. But before you immediately pick a date, there’s an important question to answer:
Which Disney Cruise is actually the right fit for your family?
Because with sailings ranging from three-night quick getaways to 14-night Panama Canal adventures—and departures from New York, Florida, Texas, California, Puerto Rico and even Singapore—there is a LOT to choose from.
And that’s where we come in. Here’s how we would narrow it down.
First: The Big News for New England Families
Let’s start with the sailing that caught our attention immediately. After spending its inaugural season in Europe, the Disney Wish will head to New York City in late September 2027 for seven special voyages. These sailings include Bermuda, Canada and Caribbean, itineraries ranging from four to six nights.
For families who live within driving distance of New York, this changes the equation quite a bit. Instead of:
Drive to the airport → fly to Florida → transfer to the port → board your cruise
you can potentially:
Drive to New York → park → board the Disney Wish.
Or:
Take the train to New York → board the Disney Wish.
That convenience alone makes these sailings worth a serious look. And there is one sailing in particular that these Northeast families should have on their radar:
October 3, 2027: Canada & New England + Halloween on the High Seas
This five-night Disney Wish sailing departs from New York and visits Saint John, New Brunswick and Boston, with two days at sea. Yes. Boston. For families who can drive to New York but don't necessarily want a long tropical vacation, this could be an incredibly fun fall getaway. And because it is a Halloween on the High Seas sailing, you get the fall scenery of the Northeast combined with Disney's Halloween celebrations onboard.
The official itinerary release also includes longer Canada sailings visiting destinations such as Charlottetown, Sydney and Halifax, giving families even more opportunities to experience Atlantic Canada from New York.
So…Which Sailing Is Right for You?
This is where things get interesting. Rather than giving you a giant list of every sailing date, let’s talk about the type of vacation you’re actually trying to plan.
You Want a Disney Cruise Without Flying to Florida
Look at New York first. For families in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine, New Jersey and parts of New York and Pennsylvania, the return of Disney Cruise Line to New York is a big deal.
You have options for:
Bermuda
Canada & New England
Halloween on the High Seas
Four-, five-, six- and seven-night itineraries
And because the Disney Wish is one of Disney Cruise Line's newer ships, you won’t feel like you’re being forced onto a classic ship just because you're skipping Florida. This is probably our first place to start with many Northeast families.
And don't overlook the value of the departure port itself. When you can drive rather than fly, you may be able to turn the trip into a much simpler vacation experience and stretch the budget further.
You Love Fall in New England
Then you're going to want to look closely at the Canada & New England sailings from New York. Disney is returning to this region after nearly four years, with itineraries designed around the Atlantic coast and fall scenery.
The itineraries include ports such as:
Boston
Saint John, New Brunswick
Halifax, Nova Scotia
Sydney, Nova Scotia
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island
For those who love PSL season (Pumpkin Spice Latte) and celebrate Aug-tober, some sailings are also themed for Halloween on the High Seas, which means you get two very different kinds of fall magic in one vacation.
Imagine spending the morning exploring a New England or Canadian port, then coming back onboard to Disney characters in Halloween costumes, special entertainment, deck parties and trick-or-treating. That is a pretty fantastic way to do fall.
You Want Halloween Without Going to the Parks
If Halloween is your family's favorite Disney season, don't automatically assume you need to book a Disney World trip. Halloween on the High Seas returns in September 2027, with special entertainment, character appearances, deck parties and trick-or-treating. And the options aren't limited to New York.
You'll find Halloween sailings from multiple homeports, including:
New York
Port Canaveral
San Diego
There are Bahamian, Caribbean, Canada & New England, Baja and Mexican Riviera options depending on the ship and departure port.
Our favorite part? You can choose your destination and your Halloween experience separately.
Want fall foliage? New York.
Want warm weather? Caribbean or Bahamas.
Want Mexico? Look at the Mexican Riviera.
Same Disney Halloween magic. Very different vacation. We also find that Disney cruises tend to be the perfect trip for multi-generational trips.
You Want the Holidays to Feel Extra Magical
Then you should be looking at Very Merrytime Cruises. Disney Cruise Line's holiday sailings return in November and December 2027, complete with festive decorations, seasonal entertainment, special treats, deck parties, a tree lighting and visits from Santa. And there are a LOT of options to choose from. Short Bahamian getaways are available, as are longer Caribbean sailings.
For families who want a holiday vacation without spending their entire trip standing in lines at a theme park, a Very Merrytime cruise can be a really different way to experience Disney during the holiday season. You unpack once. You wake up somewhere new. And your hotel, entertainment, meals and holiday atmosphere all travel with you. That is a pretty compelling combination.
You Want the Classic Disney Cruise Vacation
If what you really want is sun, beaches and Disney's private islands, look toward Florida. The Fall 2027 and Spring 2028 release includes an enormous variety of Bahamian and Caribbean itineraries from Port Canaveral and Fort Lauderdale, with many sailings visiting Disney’s Castaway Cay and/or Disney’s Lookout Cay. This is where the length of the cruise becomes important.
Three nights is great for:
First-time cruisers who aren't sure how they'll feel about cruising
A quick getaway
Families trying to fit a cruise into a longer Florida vacation
Four or five nights - this is often the sweet spot for families who want enough time to settle into the ship without committing to a full week. You have more time to enjoy the ship, relax, experience the entertainment and visit Disney's island destinations.
Seven nights - now you're getting into the “the ship is the vacation” territory. The Disney Treasure (Magic Me Ashley’s FAVORITE ship), for example, will continue seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean sailings, with additional six- and eight-night special itineraries. If your family enjoys cruising as much as the destinations, longer is often better.
You Want Something a Little Different
This itinerary release has some options that are easy to overlook.
There are:
Bermuda sailings
Southern Caribbean sailings from San Juan
Mexican Riviera sailings from San Diego
Baja cruises
14-night Panama Canal crossings
Canada & New England sailings
Singapore sailings aboard the Disney Adventure
And some itineraries offer something particularly special: multiple visits to Disney's private island destinations. This is the number one request we receive when clients are looking at Disney sailings. The itineraries include a number of sailings with both Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay, while select voyages even visit Castaway Cay twice.
If you've ever thought, “I wish we had more time at Castaway Cay,” Disney apparently heard you.
The Departure Port Might Matter More Than You Think
One of the biggest takeaways from this announcement isn't actually a specific ship or destination.
It's choice.
Disney Cruise Line is offering Fall 2027 and Spring 2028 sailings from:
New York
Port Canaveral
Fort Lauderdale
Galveston
San Diego
San Juan
Vancouver
Singapore
That means choosing your cruise doesn't have to start with: “Which ship do I want?”
It might start with: “How far am I willing to travel to get to the ship?”
For a family in New England, a five-night Disney Wish cruise from New York could make much more sense than a four-night cruise from Florida.
For another family, the opposite may be true.
That's why we don't recommend choosing your Disney Cruise based on a social media post saying one ship is “the best.” The best Disney Cruise is the one that fits your family.
And Then There's the Disney Believe…
If you've been following Disney Cruise Line news including recent annoucements at D23, you may also be wondering about the Disney Believe, Disney's next new ship. Disney has announced that the Disney Believe is scheduled to set sail in late 2027, with new venue concepts and entertainment inspired by stories including Encanto, Frozen, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Moana and The Little Mermaid. The ship's Grand Hall will be inspired by Moana, with a bronze statue of Moana, Pua and Heihei as its centerpiece.
There is one important distinction, though:
The Fall 2027/Spring 2028 itinerary release does not identify which of these published sailings will be operated by the Disney Believe. So, if you're holding out specifically for the Believe, you can’t book just yet. We're watching this one closely, and we'll be updating our clients as Disney releases more information.
When Can You Book?
This is the part you don't want to ignore. Disney Cruise Line's new Fall 2027 and Spring 2028 sailings open for booking in phases.
